It may have something to do with my choice of friends, but somehow people I know have had "bit" parts in several dirty movies so I've probably seen more than my share of them. (For some reason the temptation of seeing someone you know in one is outragiously tempting). One hardcore movie that had nobody I know personally in it, but which I enjoyed, was "Barbara Broadcast". Not only did this film rate highly on the Hustler "peter meter" scale, but it is an honest-to-goodness surrealistic porn movie. The ending didn't quite live up to my expectations, but then, what dirty movie ever does? Great scene in the kitchen. A related thought: Many people out there familiar with the "Soviet Montage" school of film? You know, Eisenstein and so forth. The fascinating thing is that action is conveyed by the cutting of the film, not by moving the camera (as in expressionism, esp. old german) or by action of the actors (american cinema). Naturally, most porn movies are directly in the american school in this case, and the end result is as someone said recently on the net "how much in/out action can you stand to watch?" Well, my answer is -- how about a "soviet montage porno movie"? Will it be more sucessful than 20 years in a Gulag? This is a serious idea, honest! Just think about the possibilities. I tend to think about this idea from two viewpoints: either as an artistic film or as a very erotic one. But this brings up the question, is is possible to make an erotic porno movie? Some I've seen have come close (I even sort of liked "Young Lady Chatterly" which was showing around on Showtime of all places a year ago). Oh! I just remembered, we even had a name for the "soviet montage porno movie". It was going to be "Odessa Steps Out" (if you get that joke, you can call yourself a film snob).
