Hi folks, We just got a flyer from Computer Horizons, and they are buying and selling all kinds of used 3B stuff. We've just bought some stuff, and they seem to be nice folks (I think Len has spoken well of them as well). Random examples from their flyer, all used parts: 3B2 PORTS board $ 250 3B2/300 -> 310 upgrade 1,500 3B20S 60,000 :-) plus lots more (quanties are limited, etc.). I'm sure they'll be glad to provide info upon request -- ask them for a flyer. It is a workable alternative to paying exorbitant costs when you don't need your hand held. For small customers who don't have the benefits of having an account rep from AT&T , they can save you money. There aren't enough alternatives to AT&T so businesses like these are valuable assets. I am still waiting to find a used XDC card :-) Len -- len@netsys.com {ames, att, rutgers}!netsys!len

Steve and Len both recommend a used equipment supplier, Computer Horizons (CH). I agree, but with one caution. We ordered 2 EPORTS cards from CH. Absolutly NO PROBLEMS. In fact, one of the cards, as CH told me when I ordered them was unused, still in original package. At what, about 30% of list price; great. The used card was missing a small mounting strap. Detail eludes me, the info was relayed to me by the installer. This problem was easily circumvented; but for other equipment ???? The major potential problem was the software needed for the EPORTS card. The original packaging contained the EPORTS device drivers on diskette. I presume that if we had received two used cards, we would not have received this diskette. I was not aware of its existance nor its requirement. Had we already had an EPORTS card installed, no problem; but we only had PORTS cards. Don't get me wrong, this was a potential problem, not a realized one. I am of the opinion that CH would have provided a solution. As Len or Steve indicated, CH personnel seem to be courteous, knowledgeable, and helpful. Simply as has often been said; CAVEAT EMPTOR! I will do business with CH again. I will also ask many questions. The major pain in life is not having easy access to parts for AT&T mini equipment..I have often been forced to deal with re-sellers because I could never get any response from AT&T marketing folks. Because I didn't do major volumes they didn't want to talk to me. It is the same with the major vars that sell AT&T equipment. The response I get is almost comical sometimes.. "What? You only want to buy one ports card!" "Don't waste my time.." Here is a wishlist for any var/marketing person that wants to contact me for a change!
