[comp.sys.att] EMT trap on UNIXPC

todd@ivucsb.UUCP (Todd Day) (03/12/89)

I was doing a LOT of stuff simultaneously (downloading news, unbatching news,
multiple windows, a compile, etc) when all of a sudden my machine locked up.
It happened just as I wanted to spawn a new rn.

I had to reboot. The only clue I have as to why this happened appears in my
/usr/spool/uucp/LOGFILE:

nessus!uucpadm (3/11-9:48:09) (C,28705,22) REQUESTED (S D.nessu24f1470 D.nessu24f1470 news)
nessus!news (3/11-9:50:37) (C,28705,23) 25 (INTREXIT)
nessus!news (3/11-9:50:37) (C,28705,23) intrEXIT (SIGNAL 7)

I also got a core dump in /usr/lib/uucp.

signal 7 is EMT instruction, according to signal(2). What is this EMT?
Why did I get it?

[ etc... ]

Please do the kindness of describing your configuration when
requesting assistance. OS level and what type of software you are
running (in this case Vanilla vs. HDB UUCP, though one could guess :-)
as well as other possible items such as memory configuration and the
peripherals that are directly involved. Info about the remote machine
could be useful too.

Many times a problem can be directly related to the OS version, or the
lack (or usage of :-) fixdisks.

Re: request for more system info

[sorry about not including it before, but I was mainly looking for
an answer about what an EMT trap was, so I didn't think to include it]

I am running UNIX3.50, stock UUCP/uucico/etc. At the time of crash, I
had under 2MB free on my 67MB hard drive. I have 2MB RAM internal,
two 512K cards, and one unpopulated Combo board.

Machine I was talking to is running PUUCP (I think).

Here is my problem:

In article <582@ivucsb.UUCP> I write:
