A company I work for is considering the purchase of a 386-based PC running AT&T System V UNIX for development of a graphics-based application. The system we are considering will have either an EGA or VGA graphics adaptor and monitor. Does anyone out there have experience using particular graphics programming libraries that work in this hardware environment? How portable is this package to other UNIX environments (does the company support a wide variety of hardware platforms?)? Finally, does the package have additional device-independent support for mice, digitizing tables, and plotters, all of which will be important for our application. I've been looking into DI-3000 from Precision Visuals, but I've heard they are expensive and don't necessarily support the hardware we are considering. I haven't heard back from them directly yet. The packages from GSS sound good, but on the 3B1 I used, they were terribly slow and more tailored for FORTRAN IV than for C programming. Has GSS changed their face yet? Of course, X windows sounds interesting, but I only know a little about it, and have heard that there's still bugs in the version for the SysV/386. Does anyone know better? Thanks in advance for any information! ------- Gil Kloepfer, Jr. U-Net: {decuac, boulder, talcott, sbcs}!icus!limbic!gil ICUS Software Systems Voice: (516) 968-6860 [H] (516) 746-2350 x219 [W] P.O.
