I think it would be appropriate for someone to post some recommendations for
introduction to religious music similar to (but hopefully not as numerous)
as the ones posted for introduction to classical music. It would be helpful
to clearly distinguish the recommendations based on musical content from
those whose main attraction is the message. Being a devout atheist myself, I'm
more interested in the music.
I'd particularly like to have some recommendations on Gospel music. I sense
that I am a potentially big fan. I mostly listen to instrumentally oriented
music, but many years ago I went to see the Broadway play "Purlie" and was
completely blown away by the gospel songs. That singing was performed with
such feeling that it just grabbed me completely.
