Interesting; there has been no comment on the movie The Day After over this DL as of yet. Did anyone out there watch it? (Dumb Question). A couple of points were brought up by the movie that I found particularly interesting. 1. The concept that if we detect incoming missiles, we will fire all of ours so that they will not be destroyed in their silos. So much for a limited? nuclear war. 2. The quote of Einstein saying that he doesn't know what WWIII would be fought with, but that he thinks WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones. My feelings is that if I don't want war, and I'm sure most of you don't want war, of any kind, then why do we have wars???? Population control?Egomania? An eye for an eye?HolyLand? Have a happy Thanksgiving. RonDukes

Just the thought of nuclear war scares the hell out of me! No, in fact, it must be worse than that because the puny, little ol' regular war that Uncle Sam selected me for did that. It however has been my observation that "Scare Tactics" alone, regarding war or VD, has not been overly successful. Thus, I was disappointed in The Day After because it seemed to me to be primarily scare tactics. Did anyone detect a real plot? As far as horror is concerned, how can anyone watch the films from Nagasaki and Hiroshima and not get the message --- and that was real! Another Turkey for Thanksgiving. --Larry

I watched the "show" The Day After and found one of the cheapest attempts to gain ratings points I have ever seen. The technical inaccuracies and the poor direction seriously weakened the story. For example, where did the farmer get a horse to ride? He had a hard enough time keeping his daughter in the cellar with her pants on much less hide and take care of a horse. I grew up in Kansas City and got my BS in Physics from Kansas University in Lawrence. At least they did do a little prebomb film justice to those two beautiful cities. One point not mentioned is that the silo's in that part of the country were inactivated several years back.
