[net.movies] Director Question

evd@mgweed.UUCP (Gene Dunn) (11/26/83)

Did David Lynch direct "Eraserhead" and/or
"Asparagus"? Also, does anyone in the Chi-
cagoland area know if these films are shown
		periodically at local theaters?

Your best bet for "Eraserhead" is to check
the local universities for periodic showings.
My experience has been that in any given area
the film is likely to appear at least once a year
at a local school.

By the way the film is absolutly bizarre,
don't see it if you have a weak stomach.

David Lynch did indeed direct ""Eraserhead." Anybody interested in
artistic movies (or just special effects, for that matter) shouldn't
miss a chance to see "Eraserhead." It's an extremely cryptic movie,
but I gather it has a theme and that it's not just a showing-off of
technique, though the technique is amazing. I guess it's about the grim
horror of industrial urban life. Anybody who saw Lynch's "Elephant Man"
and would like to see the predecessor to all those effects shouldn't miss it.

A question to those who have seen "Eraserhead": Do you know why
the credits include a special thank-you to Sissy Spacek? I've seen
the movie a few times and always wondered that. Also, any word
on what any of the actors in the movie have done since?

Incidentally, I don't know where to see "Eraserhead" in Chicagoland,
though I'm aware it's available on videocassette now.

Didn't the baby in Eraserhead later play the extraterrestrial in E.T.? :-)

I noticed Eraserhead on cable TV about a month ago, I think on the Bravo
channel. To make things weirder, at the same time "Little Shop of
Horrors" was on the Nashville Network!

Maybe I'm strange, but I also thought it was an extremely FUNNY movie.
