[net.movies] The Right Stuff, poor attendance

knudsen@ihnss.UUCP (12/09/83)

The latest Newsweek says that The Right Stuff (and other Ladd flicks)
are not doing well at the box office. I was very disappointed to
read this, as I think it's one of the most exciting, humorous,
and well-done (INCLUDING the SFX) films in a long time. My wife
& son seem to feel this way too, and they're very different from me.
Newsweek speculated that people shy away because they expect
a historical documentary, not an action picture. Well phooey on them,
since some of my favorite movies and TV shows have been documentaries.
Oh well... another "buried treasure" for the future? mike k

Yesterday - December 8th, I saw The Right Stuff. The Theater was giving
away free passes at the University that I go to. Even with the free
passes the theater was only 20% full (this is a big seater about 1000 )

I too like the picture. It was very funny, scary, and enjoyable for a
flim that is over 3 hours long.

Today that Theater is Showing Scarface (should be better at the box
office.

People are just not into sitting 3 hours to see a movie.
But for $5.00 I want to get my moneys worth. A 1.5 hour film may not
do, but a 3 hour very good film will.
