Hello netlanders. I hope someone's able to help me. I've been having a problem with my UNIXPC's uucp ever since I got the machine last September. I have made many attempts at establishing a usable link to several systems, including The Store, all without success. My system's uucp has not made one single transfer. I called AT&T about my problem a while back, but they were not at all helpful. Is there something unusual about the stock uucp supplied with 3.51 that I should know? Or am I just setting up the L.sys entries incorrectly (I'm not using the admin-kit)? Here are the lines I tried to use for The Store and osu-cis: shop Any ph0 1200 12019574646 "" BREAK "" BREAK "" BREAK "" BREAK "" BREAK "" BREAK "" ogin:--ogin: shop osu-cis Any ph0 1200 16142923112 "" \r\c Name? osu-cis nected \c GO \r\d\r\d\r\d ogin:--ogin:--ogin: Uanon I get entries in my LOGFILE like these: osu-ci!twong (6/29-0:42:23) (U,304,0) QUE'D (C.osu-cinA0040) osu-ci!uucp (6/29-0:42:58) (C,306,0) OK (DIAL ph0 P16142923112 30) After the OK DIAL, there is no further communication with the system I'm trying to contact. I usually lose the line or get timed out and the modem hangs up. I have not had a single successful login. I'm using the 1200 baud on-board modem. Are the L.sys entries my problem (If so, how does one create a correct entry, especially for the two systems mentioned above)? Or is there a bug in the software? I would appreciate all help anyone can give me, as I do not have a great deal of experience in system managing -- this is my first UNIX machine. The UNIX PC is so different from the VAX we have at CRH. Please send replies to: yale!spock!twong HELP! Thanks. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ | Terry Wong "Be yourself, no matter what | | Class of 1989 they say" | | Choate Rosemary Hall | | --Sting | | yale!spock!twong | +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hi everybody! I'm just posting to thank all the people who replied to my call for help on my UNIX PC uucp problem. My difficulties were traced to my failure to set the line to data mode before running uucico. uucp runs now, to the best of its ability 8-). It was my first time asking the group for technical help, and I'm amazed and reassured at the number of people offering their time and insight to help get me going. I used to be worried about losing AT&T's support on the UNIX PC with the discontinuation. Now, after my first experience with the net, it doesn't matter so much to me. As long as there are interested, dedicated individuals who use and maintain these machines, there will always be support -- USER SUPPORT -- which is, in my opinion, far more useful than manufacturer support. Thanks again for the help, and long live the UNIX PC! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ | Terry Wong "Be yourself, no matter what | | Class of 1989 they say" | | Choate Rosemary Hall | | --Sting | | yale!spock!twong | ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
