"A Christmas Story" is a funny movie; it's done well and the acting is good to excellent. However, it's not the kind of humor that everyone will like. This is the kind of movie I might expect if the National Lampoon writers teamed up with John Irving. The characters and situations parody the 'typical family' (something like "Vacation"), but the humor reminded me of "The World According to Garp". Bob Stewart ihldt!stewart

I guess you had to be there to get the full impact of Shep's humor. Many of the adventures that Shep went through during his childhood are the same things I went through. The story line about the B-B gun was an exact parallel of my own experience at that age. "You'll shot your eye out." was the most common phrase around my house. Many of his other stories seem to relate to my own experiences so this movie was a gas to me. I miss his radio and tv shows as they were a great nostalgic experience. Shep and I are the same age, plus we were both in the Signal Corps at Fort Gordon at the same time. Classic Shepard stories were done on PBS several years ago, but I haven't seen any reruns. The one about the Sears and Roebuck pre- packaged house was a winner. Just remember- FLICK LIVES.
