I am looking for some help in translating some software packages on floppydisk for use with 'sysadm installpkg' to 60MB SCSI Tape (qtape) for the 3B2/[4-7]00. I know I can 'dd' the floppy contents into a file, then 'dd' them back out to 'qtape', and without rewinding can fit quite a few of them there. I need to be able to distribute several packages to AT&T sites, and don't want to give them a ton of floppies. My questions are: 1. Is there a way to use 'sysadm installpkg' or a minor modification thereof to read in these "dd'd" packages from the qtape? 2. I am familiar with the tape that comes with the 3B2/600 and 3B2/700 that has EVERYTHING on it - you can even BOOT from it. I have used 'dd' to read in specific packages from these, and noticed several files/ packages before the first one that is "advertised" as being there. Is the first one a special install script that "knows" what else is on the tape? Is there a way to do this on the 3B2/400 with SCSI qtape? 3. Is there another way of getting these onto the tape in a way that can be re-installed easily? (Other than installing everything and doing a 'cpio' backup?). Thanks for any help you might offer.
