Subj; Cardew

Despite being interested in new/vangard music for many years,
I have never run across any Cardew albums.

Perhaps they are available as English imports?

By the way, he died (last year, I think) in a car wreck.

There's an interesting article on Cardew in an issue of the New Yorker
published sometime in the last year. Yes, he did die in a car crash,
but I'm not sure when (he was dead when the article came out).

I've heard a section of one of his choral works performed at the Relache
Center in Philadelphia: an a capella cantata based on a quotation from
the Confucian classic THE GREAT LEARNING and employing (of course) ama-
tuer singers. It surprised me: I found it not only interesting but
engrossing & even beautiful, even though the musical materials consisted
of musical recitations of each phrase of the text.

I don't know of any recordings of Cardew, but then I haven't really looked.
