As most of you know, from reading unix-pc.general, I just got myself two STARLAN NAU boards, and I'm having a little problems setting it up. The only documentation I have at this present time is the STARLAN Network Access Unit Installation guide, which isn't much help... I loaded the STARLAN drivers, release 1.1 (is that the most-up-to-date release?), and everything went smoothly... (on both machines, icus and icusdvlp). I strung the 8 conductor modular wire between the two machines in a daisy chain fashion (one going from the in port to the other's out port). I ran the administrative remote tests, and sending packets and getting remote status works just fine. Now for the winner.... When I cu to that system, it just goes requesting STARLAN_NAU device, then requesting icusdvlp.serve, then it tries to send the send sequence: pc_uucp "" "" NLPS:000:001:102\N\c It seems to be hanging after that point... It eventually gets a timeout, and fails. First thing I noticed when I ran cu the first time it did a: /etc/masterupd -c psx ... I also noticed it tried to get some devices /dev/psx/p[0...?]. Since no devices were there I devided to make some myself. I used the mknod command to make the devices, major device (from /etc/master) and minor device 0 (for p0, device 1 for p1... etc.) Of course I didn't know how many to make or even if I was barking up the right tree. Maybe some experienced UNIX pc STARLAN guru out there can email me some installation information, what to look for, etc.. Also when I was messing with "Enabling and Disabling" services, it sometimes gave me the error that /usr/net/listener/starlan/dbf is corrupted or missing. I looked and there is no directory (and or file by that name)... My name is called /usr/net/nls/starlan/dbf (and yes, the dbf file wasn't there). I then created it from what I had from my other machine: 1:na:NULL,:/usr/net/servers/sl # Remote login 102:n:NULL,:/usr/net/servers/uucplogin # Mail/File transfer And then I issued a /etc/namesys<CR> to start the listen daemon. All seemed to work... Thanks in advance for any light someone can shed... This time I'm the one in need :-) :-) -Lenny -- | Lenny Tropiano ICUS Software Systems [w] +1 (516) 589-7930 | | lenny@icus.islp.ny.us Telex; 154232428 ICUS [h] +1 (516) 968-8576 | | {ames, pacbell, decuac, hombre, sbcs, attctc}!icus!lenny attmail!icus!lenny | +------- ICUS Software Systems -- PO Box 1; Islip Terrace, NY 11752 -------+
