[comp.sys.att] AT&T UNIX Sys V/386: latest releases on 5.25" diskettes?

aland@infmx.UUCP (Dr. Scump) (02/10/90)

According to my sales specialist, Release 3.2.2 (or higher) is not
available on 5.25" diskettes, and he could find no indication that
there are plans to provide it on 5.25". This doesn't make much
sense to me, as I think the Olivetti-made 6386s came with 5.25"
drives. Does anybody else has more info on this? I would be
interested in the SDS (4.1.6 vers 2.1 or higher) also.

Thanks in advance.

You should have your sales person check their Sales Manual.
In general, at the end of the entry for every product, it
either has an attribute specification that orders the product
in dual media (you get both 5.25" and 3.5" media) or one or
the other. For 386 Unix 3.2.2 specifying attribute MSF14
for 5.25" media, or MSF19 for 3.5" media will get you the
appropriate media. The same goes for C issue 5. C issue
4.1.6 uses attributes SOF14 for 5.25" media and SOF19 for
3.5" media.

This is common throughout the AT&T products. My Sales Manual
is dated 2/1/90, and updates are shipped monthly.

I have 3.2.2 (16-user) on 5.25" diskettes. The foundation set includes
8 disks plus a diskette called Maintainance Update # 2. The PEC code
is 1331-031. For the unlimited user version PEC is 1331-032. For the
international versions they are 1331-031I and 1331-032I respectively.
Hope this helps.

The Olivetti-made 6386's are no-longer available from AT&T. Their
new line comes with 3.5" drives (both hard and floppy). It is
not uncommon for AT&T to discontinue support for last week's
product. Just try to order a replacement keyboard for your 6300!

The sales manual does indicate that Unix is available on either 3.5"
or 5.25" media. My AT&T dealer was told by his distributor that the
5.25" edition was not available, and probably would never be
available. So, I told them I'd accept it on 3.5". I then went out
and bought a 3.5" drive for my nice new '386 machine. A couple of
weeks later, UNIX arrived from the distributor... on 5.25" floppies!
