Thanks to all those who replied to me Superman question. The concensus of opinion is that The Ice Palace had to be destroyed for any or all of these reasons... 1) It's locations was common knowledge, and the keen gadgets inside could be used and abused by the next Lex Luthor to come along. 2) The 3 baddies were trapped inside, and were thus imprisoned/destroyed in the explosion. 3) The Superpower drainer was destroyed, so it would no longer tempt Superman to become mortal, nor endanger his powers when the world again needed him in the TaDa Nick of Time. I still feel sorry for poor Lois though. Better to have loved and lost and remembered about it that to have been brain-drained. John Rosenberg at AT&T Tech. Naperville Il. {ihnp4!} ihuxa!johnnyr

<One small line for the muncher...> The responses to why Superman destroyed his Fortress of Solitude at the end of Superman II reminded me of another question which occurred to me as I watched. The 3 villains from Krypton were apparently knocked off the Fortress into the ice (sea??), never to be seen again. Can it be that Superman violated his oath never to destroy life? (Yes, I realize that there were any number of inconsistencies between the movie and the comic books, but this one seemed like a biggee.) Since the TV version went to the trouble of having Luthor carted off by the authorities (BTW, whose authorities WERE they??), they could as easily have had the Kryptonian bad guys carted off as well. Seems like a loose end that the movie decided to ignore rather than deal with. -- Jim ..!houxm!hou2b!sims

The version I saw (on T.V.) showed before LEX was carted off, the three bad persons put in a truck and carted off (approx. 15 second clip).

(The previous response asked who the authorities in Superman II (tv version) were that carted off Lex Luthor at the end of the movie.) Well, the vehicles-with-flashing-lights had "U.S. Artic Patrol" written on them. Making the Great White North safe for democracy, I guess . . . :-) Dak
