****S****P****L****A****T Casablanca/Play It Again Sam is a semi-regular double feature around here. It's really a fun bill - you get to see the ending of Casablanca <three> times! -- Clyde W. The Road Warrior / Death Race 2000 (Our future consists of mayhem on the highways. The only problem with this double featture would be the carnage which would result when people who had seen it leave the theater & pull out of the parking lot.) King's Row / The Last Picture Show (The 2 best movies of the "Peyton Place" genre - i.e., those in which the entire population of a small town are the supporting cast.) Enter the Dragon / Kentucky Fried Movie (The latter contains a lengthy parody of the former.) A Hard Day's Night / Head (The Beatles as directed by Richard Lester, & the Monkees as scripted by Jack Nicholson. The antecedents of modern "music videos" can be seen in the rapid-pace editing of these movies.) On the Waterfront / Raging Bull (A fighter who lost his contender status because he took a dive, & another who got a shot at the title for the same reason, as portrayed by the most influential actors of their times. "Raging Bull" concludes with DeNiro reciting Brando's "I could have been a contender" speech from "On the Waterfront" - an actor portraying a real-life figure imitating an actor portraying a fictional character : Pirandello-esque, wouldn't you say ?)
