x Is there any guide to the multiplicity of x-rated video tapes? I just watched my second ("Flesh Gordon"-sort of picked at random), and while it was mildly erotic and funny it was not worth the $2.50 rental fee; being poorly acted, filmed, directed, written, etc. There *has* to be a reason why 25% of the tapes in my rental outlet are "adult" fare :-) sam

[ guess what this line is for ] There are two criteria (at least) for evaluating x-rated movies: (1) How good it is compared to other motion pictures (plot, characters, etc) and (2) its prurience, how aroused you get while you watch it. Although both are subjective, I have *never* seen a good x-rated movie according to criterion (1). If you are looking for such movies (heh, heh), you will have a hard time (oops! sorry) finding any. With that in mind, places to look for comparisons between x-rated movies include: Pocket Books #46844-8 "Adult Movies", $3.95. Has em all thru '82. Video Review magazine reviews one or two per month. This exhausts my list (what kind of pervert do you think I am?), but I imagine that other magazines would have reviews of x-rated movies; try Penthouse, Hustler, those kind of magazines.

Bad news for you. If you thought "Flesh Gordon" was bad, almost any other porn film made is worse. With few exceptions("Story of O") most porn is inept in the extreme. In fact, I personally consider Flesh Gordon to be one of the best "soft core" porn films ever done, especially due to the excellent stop-motion animaition and the irreverent attitude toward the whole idea. As to the popularity of it all, Flesh Gordon probably does not explain it. I suggest that sex sells. However, Flesh Gorden is rather short on sex and long on jokes and models, which is why some people like it.
