[net.movies] Blame it on Rio

Terse recommendation: Avoid this flick!

Briefly, this is the story of two middle-aged men (Michael Caine and
Joe Bologna) who go to Rio on vacation with their two daughters. Caine
has an affair with Bologna's daughter and things go downhill from there.

I had hoped at least for some light entertainment. Well, aside from
a bit of enjoyable repartee between Caine and Bologna you can forget it.
Acting by the lovestruck daughter (who spends much of the movie topless)
is artificial and the rest of the cast is uniformly weak. I had also
hoped for a Brazilian score and atmosphere. No way. We get 95% of the
score as straight Hollywood pop/disco/slop with only an occasional cut
of Rio street music. I only paid two bucks and feel gipped.

By the way, for a truly wonderful Brazilian flick (also set in Rio),
see the classic "Black Orpheus."
