i got a 3b1 (unixpc) on one side and a 3b2/400 on the other. the 3b1 is running R 3.0 (i think) and the 3b2 is running 3.2.1 both are running HDB. however, when a file is transfered via a telebit, the 3b1 reports a throughput of 650 cps while the 3b2 says 1300. who's right? -- [ Jim Mercer work: jim@lsuc.on.ca home: merce@iguana.uucp +1 519 570-3467 ] [ "Anarchists Unite!" - seen spray painted on a wall ]

This can happen if the files are small, because of buffering in the Telebits. Be sure to make the comparison with larger files, say 200k. Also the rate could be different if the modems didn't get primed the same way on each test call, i.e., activation of the modem's internal G protocol. Or, the rates would be different if the hardware/software flow control was messed up on one end. But you would see that when running uucico in the debug mode. All that aside, my 3B2 w/ Telebit transmits about 200cps slower than it receives. -- Greg Hackney hack@moxie.lonestar.org
