I just saw "Racing with the Moon", starring Sean Penn and Nicolas Cage. Here follows my feelings on the movie, I won't go into great detail on the plot so it is not a spoiler. The movie has two of the most promising young actors in Sean Penn (from Fast Times at Ridgemont, Taps and probably some others I can't remember) and Nicolas Cage (from Valley Girl). It also stars Elizabeth McGovern (from Ragtime and Lovesick). These three are all very good and do their job very well in the movie. Cage and Penn play two 17 year-olds on the verge of going into the service. The time is 1942. Throughout the film I had the feeling the director was trying to make a modern-day "Last Picture Show." If this was his intention, he failed. If it was not, he made a good film, not great, but good. The film deals with the relationships between the different characters, we also get a good feel for the wwII time period. The plot is so-so but the acting is A-1. I felt that Cage had by far the best performance in the picture. He showed he has the potential to become a great young actor. On a scale from 1-10 on the meter. I'll give it a 7.
