..............................
Did anyone out there see The Last Unicorn?
If so, was it adapted from Peter Beagle's book?
If so, was it good, passable or a shameful travesty?
(The book is one of my top favorites.)

I saw THE LAST UNICORN, also because Peter Beagle's book is one of
my favourites. I was sorely disappointed by the film. Much of the
humour of the book is missing, e.g., the outlaws in the forest are
played straight, not as a commentary on the Robin Hood legend. It
was done by the same people who did that travesty of THE HOBBIT, and
is up to the same level.

Yes, I saw the Last Unicorn. Yes, it was adapted from Peter
Beagle's book. It was passable. Japanese animation, reasonable
characterization, music by America. Except for the fact that the
Red Bull looked more like a big red pig with horns, it was pretty
good. I'd say, see it if you get the chance. The book is also a
favorite of mine, and I wasn't too disappointed. Please remember,
however, that it is a kid's movie, so don't expect too much
(especially from Shmendrick).

The one thing to remember, folks, when blasting the movie version
of "Last Unicorn", is that BEAGLE WROTE THE SCREEN ADAPTATION.

(His name is in the credits, anyway, last time I saw it.)

The book is rather downbeat, the movie less so.

I can't say whether The Last Unicorn was adapted from the book, but I must
say I thoroughly enjoyed it, with my wife and two children. I thought the
animation and music lovely, the plot stimulating for kids and entertaining
for adults. See it.

Beagle himself wrote the screenplay.

My problem is, I LOVED the movie (one of the best Christmas experiences of
my life), but I had not read the book beforehand (I read it after). I still
think the movie is well worth seeing, but I am not sure of the effect on one
who has read the book beforehand. One other thing, the animation is all
Japanese (However, I LIKE Japanese animaton!)
