[net.music] "Jesus Music" recommendations

tim@cavell.UUCP (Tim Breitkreutz) (05/26/84)

Here are my preferences (in the realm of 'Christian music') for anyone
who is interested: (categorized into official CCM and regular music
which is Christian oriented)

1. People who write "Christian music":

	Daniel Amos:	Shotgun Angel,
			Horrendous Disc,
			Alarma Vol 1 & 2.
Steve Taylor:	I Want to be a Clone,
			Meltdown.
	Phil Keaggy:	Town to Town.

I concurr (mostly) with Glenn Wichman's CCM recommendations.

Daniel Amos and Steve Taylor are my favourites. They are both
innovative, and I even enjoy DA's early country/western (yecch!!)
music. Horrendous Disc and the Alarma records, however, show the
band's style much better. Alarma vol. I is my all-time favourite LP.
Steve Taylor's albums are more 'pop'ish but still have some very
good music on them.
Phil Keaggy is a very good guitarist, but I don't like his music
on record all that much. His jamming is awesome.
They all do incredible concerts, and CCM concerts are far cheaper
than regular ones!
Larry Norman and Randy Stonehill get a yes vote. I think Servant,
Res Band, Petra, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, etc. are rather boring.

2. "Christians" who write music:

	Bruce Cockburn:	Bruce Cockburn,
			In the Falling Dark,
			Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws,
			Inner City Front,
			The Trouble with Normal.
	U2: Boy,
			October,
			War,
			Under a Blood Red Sky.

Bruce Cockburn has a consistently good style despite what genre
he is currently using. The above records are, respectively,
basic guitar/voice folk; elaborate folk; rock/folk; reggae/ska/folk;
and new wave/folk.
   U2--very subtle music/lyrics. Great stuff.

Any comments, inquiries, or disagreements welcome by mail.
