[net.movies] Hole in Romancing the Stone

citrin@ucbvax.UUCP (Wayne Citrin) (04/16/84)

There were a number of holes in the plot of Romancing the Stone, but the one
I'm concerned with here concerns the scene where Michael Douglas is holding
the baddies at bay while Kathleen Turner tries to cross the gorge.
Douglas remarks that she's seeing "a real live Jesse" (or words to that effect)
Jesse being the hero in Turner's romantic novels. However this scene takes
place at a point where the characters hardly know each other. From what
happens later it seems that Douglas has never heard of Turner nor has he read
any of her books. Did anyone else notice this or have I missed something?

We noticed this also. The only explaination we could come up
with was that they had discussed her work and she had mentioned
"Jessie" while they were walking. Any other suggestions?

Quite right... I also noticed this, as he has yet to read one of her books
(at the drug smuggler's hacienda).

I went to see "Romancing the Stone" last night for the second time
(I *like* that movie). I listened especially carefully during the
scene at the bridge, as did the lady whom I was with. Jack Colton
says, not too distinctly:

"I hope you're taking notes, lady -- this is a real, live death
	scene."

"Death scene" not "Jesse."

Go see the movie a second time and check it out. It sure is fun,
even the second time around.
