[comp.sys.att] Problem getting NNTP1.5Pl7 to compile on 3b2/400

g-patena@steer.sdsu.edu (Mitch Patenaude) (05/01/91)

System: 3b2/400 SysV 3.1.2 with an NI board and WIN3B tcp/ip ver. 2.1
and version 1.0 of fp+cc C compiler and programming utilities
(and lots of other stuff which is probably irrelevant.)

This machine has just been put on the campus ethernet, and therefor the
internet. I am trying to get nntp1.5 compiled and working so this machine
can act as a news server for the campus (we currently have no news). But

when I try to compile.. I get a strange error message.. when I try to make
the server (which I am not sure is nessary for my application.. but should
work anyway)... it gives me the following:

src/nntp1.5[5]% make server
        cd server; make
        cc -O -o nntpd main.o serve.o access.o access_inet.o access_dnet.o activ
e.o batch.o ahbs.o globals.o group.o help.o ihave.o list.o misc.o netaux.o ne
wgroups.o newnews.o nextlast.o ngmatch.o post.o parsit.o scandir.o slave.o spaw
n.o strcasecmp.o subnet.o time.o xhdr.o fakesyslog.o batch.o ../common/version.
o -lndir -lnet -lnls -lnsl_s
undefined first referenced
 symbol in file
getmsg /usr/lib/libnsl_s.a
putmsg /usr/lib/libnsl_s.a
sigset /usr/lib/libnsl_s.a
ld fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to nntpd

Stop.
*** Error code 13
*** Error code 1
src/nntp1.5[6]%

So... that's very strange... I include every library which could
conceivablely be required.. and now.. routines referenced in a library can't
be found... what am I to do?

   HELP!
