[net.movies] Moscow on the Hudson

I caught a preview of Moscow on the Hudson. Robin Williams
finally has a normal role -- I hope it sticks.

We found the movie to be quite enjoyable. The nationalistic
stuff is almost too much, but not fatal.

Saw "Broadway Danny Rose" with "Moscow" for $2.50 which
wasn't such a bad double feature at all!

I saw Moscow on the Hudson last night, in a sold out (4-plex) theater.
It was dull. No fault of the actors, the script was just dull. The
jokes were sometimes painfully gratuitous, especially with respect to
gays in NYC. (They did get chuckles from morons in the audience.)
This film had loads of potential, but it didn't deliver.

The acting was credible, and there were touching and funny moments.
Just not nearly enough of them to make up for the lousy script. Even
Robin Williams fans will not enjoy this, because his well played
character has nothing to say here, and this role doesn't have much of
the incredible improvisation which would make Williams fun to watch in
even the worst movie.

Broadway Danny Rose, on the other hand, was terrific.

This was a dog of a movie. The acting was rather good; but the
plot line was terrible. There was no cohesive theme... just a
bunch of not-so-funny jokes strung together. The jingoism did
jar a bit, but I could have overlooked that if the there had been
some plot developement.

The scene where he and his girlfriend were getting it on in the
bathtub while reciting the bill of rights was truly bizarre.
Perhaps this was intended to espouse "The right to gratification".

Summary - Incredibly bad movie that you shouldn't pay to see, and
should think twice about if you get to see it gratis.

I think the writer has a limited idea of the source of the USA's
greatness. I might have attributed some credit to the Northern Europeans
(especially English and Scandinavians) who came here and cleared the land.

These peoples developed a clear conception of law and obeyed it.

Around the Mediterranean, the vendetta is still the main redress for
grievances.

Before I receive floods of raving flames, I am a Mediterranean and have
lived in many of these countries. I speak from observation.
