+ Can anyone tell me how compatible a franklin ace 1000 is with the
+ apple II+? Any major hardware/software incompatibilities would be
   + appreciated. Thanks.

The franklin Ace 1000 is basically a clone of the early Rev ]['s. The
same problems that exist for early rev apples to the later rev 7's and
RFI motherboards apply. One problem I have found to be fairly major
is a small timing incompatability between the early and late rev models.
Some manufactures' cards simply do not work in the early revs. An example
which has been killing me lately is the Passport MIDI card. I have been
told that certain cp/m cards also malfunction. A possible solution is
to replace the data bus drivers (8T28's - I believe) with an LS245. After
studing the schematics, I believe these chips are the source of the
problem. This solution requires a small piggyback board. If you
want to play with the Ace character set ROMS, you will notice that the
display bits are mirror imaged from that of the apple.
