I'm entering this for someone who doesn't have access to the net; please reply on net or to me. NOTE that this may not be a real general problem (see his 2nd paragraph); but if you should recognize it, give a yell. HELLO, I am having some problems with AE Pro and the novation apple cat with 212 upgrade option. Can anyone steer me to a board or help me with this problem. The modem works ok at 300 baud, but when in 212 mode it shows as carrier always on. The ver is 4.6b and commware 5.03 (which causes the 212 to drop random characters during session. please leave a message here, i check THANKS MARK FOR THE HELP. I SENT THE APPLECAT BACK TO THE FACTORY FOR REPAIRS, THEY SEEM TO THINK ITS A HARDWARE PROBLEM. I CALLED UP AE PRO SUPPORT IN L.A., CA. 303-671-0033 AND THEY BELIEVE ITS A CONFIGURATION PROBLEM AS WELL AS A HARDWARE PROBLEM. THANKS FOR ANY HELP. \@

I have had similar problems with the 212 Upgrade to my AppleCat. Each time, I have been able to solve the problem be simply moving the upgrade card around. It seems that the card (which is not directly plugged into the bus, but is hanging outside of the case by the connecting lines) sometimes is grounded against something on the backplane. I've also found that soldered connections on the large ribbon cable to the upgrade card were fragile and could come loose. Results were that 300 worked fine, but 1200 baud was a sometimes a problem. When I solved these minor hardware problems, the Novation worked just fine--much better than the Hayes compatible external modem that I'm using with my IBM clone. The filtering is much better and is less susceptible to line noise. Mel Moy melmoy@nprdc

I had the same problem once. The problem was that my upgrade card wasn't in securely. You might try cleaning the connectors on the card, and/or making sure it ifirmly inserted. Good Luck.

when I talked to Novation (and boy, that was a lot of phoning!) I was informed that the 212 card had to be in the "slot saver" configuration to be used with ascii express. SInce I have my card in slot 3, there was no problem, tho. Just a note. sean kamath@reed.UUCP
