[comp.sys.apple] Bad disk

SJDMK@UNO.BITNET (11/29/86)

This is just an update to my previous posting about the disk
that I'm having trouble reading.

The files that I spent so much time (at 300 baud) downloading
were the 13 files for Modemworks. I figured I'd download it
and see what it was all about before I spent the $30 on the
manual.

If any kind person has the files and would like to send them
to me on the net I would appreciate it (and so would my wallet).

Of course, after spending three hours on CompuServe at 300bps just trying
to download it, you've spent almost $30 anyway -- and nothing to show for it.
I just hate to see anyone waste more time and money than is necessary for
obtaining my product. The wizards running CompuServe would not allow me
to pack a full and complete diskette in one file (making your job of
downloading ModemWorks a simple experience), so I had to break it up into
billions of files. (It's probably a scam they set up to cause you to spend
the maximum amount on time downloading stuff). Because of all this, I have
been very reluctant to work with CIS anymore, and so the files that are
still on there are VERY OUT OF DATE, and DO NOT SUPPORT the Apple //c,
as does the most recent version.

This isn't the first time this story has been told. Save yourself a lot
of grief and undue trouble trying to get files off of CIS; just get the
package from the distributor along with the documentation and technical
support, and save yourself some money at the same time.
