As to the question of buying Apple or not buying Apple... There are some things that are better from Apple, and others that are not. Generally, Apple products are a little more expensive. But some software "rely" on having Apple products. Like MousePaint requires (or at least did) that you have an Imagewriter. (there has since been software patches that allows different printers, and printers which claim "Imagewriter- compatibility"...) But you have the peace of mind that that a piece of software WILL work, when you buy such a product. There seem to be a large number of Imagewriters out there, so that might not be too bad a choice. Modems though, seems to be another matter. I would tend to look away from Apple Modems, if I had a choice. Modem communications seems to be ok, with any good Hayes compatible. In any case, you will need Apple's Super Serial Card (or compatible). Once you have that, almost all the software supports that, so you should have no problems. About ordering by mail... They tend to be cheaper... but I never trust mail order. There is a lot of room for potential problems... damage in the mail, fly-by-night operators, warranty problems, etc. I guess it would have to be a personal decision, whether the savings are worth the risk... Well, I hope that this helps! --Tak Ariga ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- UUCP: {utzoo, decvax, ihnp4, cbosgd, utcsri, mnetor}!utcs!utcdfc!cssu Othernets: cssu%cdfc.toronto.edu@csnet-relay.arpa cssu@utcdfc.utcs.uucp University of Toronto -- Toronto, Canada -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
