Apple compatible products... Beware some "Asian" or "Made in Taiwan" clones and peripherals. I recently bought, for about $35, a disk drive controller card for the IIe which was made in Taiwan...no brand name per se. Good deal, true. It even looked the same as official IIe stuff down to the board tracings. However, the ROMS are not the same, and there may be some subtle board differences. The BOTTOM LINE, however, was that it was incredibly slow compared to the Apple counterpart. It seemed to perform IO in little chunks. Blocks loaded into screen RAM for example seemed to go about 4 times more slowly, and were visually poor as a result. If I were you, pays your money but get the best you can afford. (Ask me sometime about my Asian clone IIe, it is perhaps a different story...but I doubt you can find these around anymore.) Robert Dickow (egg-id!ui3!dickow)
