[comp.sys.apple] Posting Apple Tech Notes on the net...

cssu@cdfc.utoronto ("Comp. Sci. Student Union") (12/18/86)

Well, how long are the "Tech Notes" in question? If they are some huge
document that is published by the mega-bytes daily, I think a new
newsgroup/mailing list, would be warranted.

But if it is something the size of an average "post" here, I think posting
it here would be sensible, and convenient.

We have to take into account that there are two kinds of people here...
USENET users (comp.sys.apple), and APRAnet mailing list users (info-apple).
I happen to be on the uucp, but don't get fed USENET news, so I am on the
ARPAnet list. (I find that the mailing list is quite slow... How do other
people find this? )

Anyway, back to my point. If a new newsgroup is to be created on USENET,
a new mailing list will have to be created for the APRAnet. If the
existing method is used, things are simple. If a totally independent
mailing list is created, someone will have to administer it, make a mail
exploder, and such...

Another question arises, if a new mailing list is created, how will be post
comments and followups? For USENET users, using a mailing list will be a
pain, I'm sure... They will have to exit "rn", and mail their posts. And
the post will again have to be 'exploded' creating a need for a REAL big
heavy duty mailing list... (or doing it by hand, but it's a hassle.)

I think creating a new mailing list strictly for the Tech Notes is a wasted
effort, and duplicating services.

So, (after endless rambling...), I restate my original idea: post it here
if it is small, and create an alternate group/mailing list if it is HUGE.

Your points are well taken and that is what I probably will do. Most of the
notes are regular posting size and usualy less than 10 new ones come out each month
so it shoudn't be a problem with the net.

Thanks for your comments,
Rick
