Does anyone know if there is a way to turn in my Dos version of AE Pro, pay some money (less than the cost of a new one) and get the ProDos version?

Yes, there is an update plan for AE Pro DOS 3.3 to ProDOS. You didn't include your serial number, but here is the breakdown. If you have a serial number less than 50000, send in your original master diskette and $54.50 for a complete package, including disk and manual. If your serial number is greater than 50000, send in your original master disk and $30.00 for a replacement disk and manual addendum. If you need any further details, you can contact USII: United Software Industries, Inc. 8399 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Ste. #200 Canoga Park, CA 91304 818/887-5800 --Bill UUCP: {akgua, hplabs!hp-sdd, sdcsvax, nosc}!crash!pnet01!bblue ARPA: crash!pnet01!bblue@nosc INET: bblue@pnet01.CTS.COM

Even if the ProDos vers of AE PRO can be turned in for a credit, I would suggest keeping it! I have found that when running a Pro Dos AE, and transfering files from a dos3.3 vers, there are hassles in examining and writing the file type to disk. Txt files end up binary and other problems. There is a way to convert these to the right type, alas I disremember. In short, stay compatible with all and unless someone posts an easy fix for this problem, keep them both.
