[comp.sys.apple] TML Pascal has arrived

mccann@puff.UUCP (03/28/87)

Great news - TML Pascal has shipped!

Yep, my copy of the compiler, source code library, and ORCA/M assembler
arrived yesterday. Most unfortunately, I have little time to play with it
right now, but here's a big something you should know: You must have
version 1.1 (or later, if there is such a beast) of the System Disk in
order to run the sound demo program and the font demo program from TML's
Source Code Library disk. Version 1.0 did not have all the necessary files
(like fonts, for instance). Those demos will still run w/o bombing,
but they won't do any interesting things.

I haven't tried to compile or link or anything like that yet; I just made
backup copies and ran the interesting source code demos.

Lester,
The real reason that you can't run the sound demo is that version 1.0 is
missing the sound tools that 1.1 has.

I don't know what type of set up you have but here are a few things I have
found:
While the APW only requires 512k of memory on an expansion card, I won't
work with that much. An error in the memory manager (software only) forces
you to have a 1 meg card, otherwise you get a 'not enough memory' error. So
if you're like me and have a 1.5 GSram, that means you must set the ramdisk
down to as little as 400k. Those demos are examples of 'plain vanilla' programs
that are usually found in magazines and artiles. TML has access to the GS
toolbox, so you could take those and add some things to them, like pull down
menus, or make them event driven. Have fun with it, I know I am!!
