Bob Soron: Your friend may have found a use for slot 7. I'm very happy with my RAMFactor which is made to order for Slot 7. It supports an expanded AppleWorks desktop (essential on a ][+), and it can be partitioned (if you want to buy enough memory) so that you can boot both DOS 3.3 and ProDOS programs from it with PR#7. AE also supplies an Appleworks patch for the ][+. My only caveat is that Appleworks plus a RAMFactor is many bucks just for a flat filer. Frankly, I'm still using Apple Quickfile on my //e, a (gasp!) non-AppleWorks word processor, and the Spreadsheet 2.0 (from the A.P.P.L.E.-Coop) and I'm happy. If your friend is seriously considering the outlay for AppleWorks, then I'd recommend looking at a //c (with the AE memory expander) or a Laser 128 (which will accept a RAMFactor in its optional "slotbox"). The main reason I make the recommendation is that AppleWorks is really a cripple without MacroWorks (or one of the other, similar memory resident AppleWorks helpers) which won't work on a ][+ (because Apple memory resident programs hide the code that "hooks" them to other software in the Auxilliary memory "screen holes" which the ][+ ROM has no way of knowing about).
