[comp.sys.apple] Ascii/Mouse-Express Query - and BB Query

nazgul@apollo.UUCP (04/09/87)

...

1) I read a review of the new Ascii Express software that mentioned
that it supported V100 emulation. Is this really true? And if so
is it a reasonably full implementation? In particular, does it
        support scroll regions?

2) Does anyone know of any BB software for ProDos? I've got a 20meg
hard disk sitting on my Apple and going to waste most of the day.

                                                        -kee

I have been using Mousetalk (on a GS machine) and wanted to try ProTerm for
a couple of reasons (Kermit, larger memory buffers due to using RAM cards,
etc.). When I ordered ProTerm, I asked for a 14 day evaluation period, and
believe that I will not accept the package and go back to Mousetalk.

Reasons: (a) Proterm does not recognize any GS memory [and I am told that
it may never], (b) Proterm always exits incorrectly and trashes the
operating system resulting in a time consuming warm boot to restore, (c)
Kermit does not allow small files to be transfered [causes files of 4 or 5
megabyte size to be created on disk when file size is really about 80 bytes].

I have returned the system disk to Check for an update since they released
a new version apparently 1 or 2 days after shipping my order (? strange).
I await receipt of version 1.3, but am not too hopeful. Seems that Proterm
has a lot of potential, but it just ain't there yet. If I change my
opinion after receipt of the upgrade, I'll report same here.

Bud

P.S., "Check" above should read "Checkmate".

A few questions about proterm. Can you upload all files on disk with
one command, using Kermit. Do you have to set the file type to upload
files? Can you do wildcard downloads from Kermit systems that support
wildcards? How does the terminal emulation work? I am posting this as a followup
because I think others will have the same questions.

Thanks, OD
