SOFTERM is no longer copy protected. It hasn't been since 1985. Until the 128K version was released it required hardware (used a slot) and copy protection would have been redundant. The 128K version can be used without hardware (there is a minor loss of functionality in that case, but it's no problem to work around that). Unlike the remark about AE Pro, SOFTERM's manual is encyclopediac. It takes a little while to learn how to use the manual effectively, but the manual really is necessary (or an experienced SOFTERM user) in order to fully benefit from the program. SOFTERM's price is really for the documentation as much as the disk. "AppleWorks forgets the PREFIX" -- Is that a bug or "an undocumented feature" (that's what Apple likes to call things they don't intend to fix). "Mac Plus vs Mac SE vs Mac II" - As long as there's a substantial difference in the prices, the real issue is how much are you willing to pay? Unless you want access to MS-DOS, there isn't much reason to prefer the SE over the Plus (the SE is a little faster, but not a lot). The Mac II is really a new generation computer. Once Juggler is out (or Apple Unix), and if a 68851 is installed, then you have a true multitasking computer (a late 1970's mainframe). Rumor has it that the box already is designed to swap in the 68030 when it becomes a production chip in the Fall (making the II about 3 times faster than it is already because the 68030 is a piplelined chip). Also, the Mac II has all those slots (interesting possibilities) and room for LOTS of RAM. If you've got the dough, the II is the way to go. As long as I'm typing away here... for those who ask to be dropped from this list: requests should be sent to INFO-APPLE-REQUEST@BRL.ARPA
