[comp.sys.apple] 65802 in ][, ][+, //e...

Several people have asked what could be done with a 65802 once it was
installed in an older Apple //. One possibility is the Tiny C compiler
sold by the Byteworks that works with their ORCA/M assembler. I under-
stand that the source code for the compiler is available. I don't know
if the Byteworks has written a version of the compiler for the 65802 but
you could go back and rewrite it yourself to make use of the strengths of
that processor, if they haven't. This would be a big job, but once done
you could program to your heart's content with your 65802-code producing
compiler. Another possibility is the P-System from Pecan software. They
have a 65816 native code generator that could probably be used on older
Apples, since the P-System is limited to 64 or 128 K anyway.

The Small C compiler from the Byte Works is listed in the APDA catalog
for $31.95 with source code included. It requires ORCA/M. The Power
System from Pecan is listed for 99.95 with your choice of a Pascal,
Modula-2, Basic or Fortran compiler. The 65816 native code generator
is a utility that converts P-code, no price was listed.
