[comp.sys.apple] Upgrading //e to //gs

akuo@miro.Berkeley.EDU (Augie Kuo) (05/31/87)

The upgrade for the //e to a //gs basically replaces the //e backplate, mother-
board and all, with the //gs backplate. Thus you would have all the connections
for the monitor, disk drives, etc. but you wouldn't get a mouse or a numeric
keypad. Also, the dealers are required to "swap" the backplates plus $495 so
say goodbye to your //e if you do decide to do this. This also means that if
you have a clone of a //e, you wouldn't be able to "trade", even if it was a
clone //e backplate...

I'd suggest then to just sell your //e and keep the drives, etc. since
the cards will still work (except the 80 col. card) and just buy the //gs
if you really want it. As for prices I've seen anywhere from $699 to $999
for the //gs CPU and mouse, but usually you would have to buy a system to get
that price. By the way, if anyone IS selling their //e CPU, I'm interested...
