[comp.sys.apple] PCPI CP/M

mrapple@pnet01.UUCP (Nick Sayer) (06/28/87)

I have a PCPI Applicard, and have found that the Unidisk 3.5 driver I have
for it will not function propperly with the //gs 'Smartport.' Does anyone
have a driver (or a patch to existing code) that will? If such a driver
works with the 'standard' ProDOS methods of locating devices, it would
supposedly work with the RAMdisk as well, wouldn't it?

Thanks in advance.

I have a PCPI Applicard and a //gs.

1: The Applicard does not physically fit in the case. I am planning on using
an 'extenda-slot' or some-such (a ribbon cable with a slot on one end and a
connector to a slot on the other) and placing the card in the case at an angle
so that it will fit. Are there hidden pitfalls to avoid with this technique
(other than the possibility of the card moving around and shorting whatever it
bumps into)?

2: The Unidisk 3.5 driver I have does not work with Smartport devices. I
understand that PCPI is no longer supporting the Applicard. Is there anyone
else out there who has patched the driver or written a new one that does work
with Smartport devices? Such a driver would, theoretically, also work with the
/RAM5 disk without modification, since it just looks to everyone else like a
normal drive, wouldn't it?

If none of this pans out, does anyone have a suggestion as to a 'second best'
CP/M card? The Softcard and its compatables are unacceptable (too slow and too
memory innefficient).
