[comp.sys.apple] Modems and Software

rre@ihlpg.ATT.COM (Velveteen Rabbit Corps) (07/06/87)

Hi, again.

I'm interested in purchasing a modem for my Apple //c so I can
do my class programming from my apartment. I want a 1200-baud modem
(no 300-baud, please) and some terminal emulation software.

In a recent A+, both the Promotheus Promodem 1200G and the USRobotics
Courier 1200 looked good, and Programs Plus sells the Promodem for
$169 and the Courier for $199. Does anyone have any experience with
these products? Which ones can be easily connected to other computers
if I'd like to keep using my modem someday down the road?

In terms of software, I'd like something that was in Prodos, and that
can do terminal emulation. The stuff by Commworks looks good, and
can do VT-100 (the terminal I'd like to emulate. Actually, I'd just
love to emulate a hp2621 terminal, but I don't know of any software
that does that). ASCII Express Pro looks good, too, but I kind of
wanted something that would work on the //gs, if that was the path
I'd take in the future.

Does anyone have any experience with Commworks or ASCII Express (or
any other communications software you happen to like and would like to
recommend)? I would be dialing up mainframes at school to do my work,
and possibly in the future dialing up mainframes at work.

Thanks.
