I haven't heard that a IIgs smartport driver has been written for Softerm. When I mentioned it to the tech guy at Softronics, he muttered oaths (I guess writing a driver in the space usually used by Softerm is non-trivial, or Apple has provided them with enough documenation to make it easy -- and I KNOW they don't want to have to buy a IIgs just to test it on). However, Softerm (as well as just about any other comm program that runs on your ][+) should work with the Applemate. I haven't heard whether Softronics' hardware card for the ][+ will work in a IIgs. You should update to Softerm 2.5x (if you haven't done so already -- it'll only cost you $25) which uses the OA & CA (Apple) keys, 128K, and also reads & writes 5.25 ProDOS floppies. Even though it's not copy protected, Softerm will not comprehend 3.5 inch drives, or anything else that's not a 5.25 Apple disk II (or clone). That "Boot" file contains Softronics own accelerated DOS 3.3, and it evidently isn't easy to patch to recognize other devices.
