For those of you interested in computers and technology in the arts, the Banff Centre School of Fine Arts is embarking on an exciting new adventure. Opportunities will be available for artists and technologists to collaborate in a highly creative environonment. The Inter-Arts department at the school is developing a Computer Media Laboratory to support the appropriate activities. This message is being posted to several groups across the net, in hopes of catching the interest of people from as many related disciplines as possible. The variety of equipment we will be using, the scope of the sociological and philosophical issues we will be covering, and the general diversity of activities we will be performing make it difficult to nail down exactly who will and who will not be interested. It is hoped that manufacturers, developers, and other research environments will become involved with our lab. For those who have become even slightly intrigued, there is a longer and more complete letter posted to the following groups: comp.graphics comp.misc rec.music.makers rec.music.synth comp.edu Please contact me if you know of any other networks or bulletin boards where you think it would be appropriate to post this letter. Any arts related boards and forums you are aware of would be prime recipients. For more information about the Computer Media Lab, please contact the Inter-Arts Department at The Banff Centre. I will also be at SIGGRAPH in Anahiem this summer, and at the International Computer Music Conference at the University of Illinois. Anybody who wants to discuss opportunities, rant on about philosophical issues, or provide suggestions of any sort should feel free to contact me either at these conferences or at the following address.
