[comp.sys.apple] bitnet distribution?

CC004019@BROWNVM.BITNET (Christopher Chung) (07/24/87)

In the past, there has been a lot of talk about a way to distribute public
domain programs over bitnet. Users on Arpanet have a server machine (SIMTEL-20)
that they can get files from but users on bitnet have no access to that unless
they have FTP access. My school has just installed a LISTSERV server on which
I can start a bitnet distribution list for public domain programs. There is no
way to store files, but those who want to participate in sending and receiving
programs can subscribe. Once subscribed, you will receive programs from
whomever submits them. I suppose that if a new user wants a program that has
already been sent out a while ago, someone who still has it on their system can
send it again.
Although this is not a place to store files, it is one solution to the
problem of distributing programs. What do you people out there think about
this? Should I set this up? Let's hear some discussion out there.
And to those of you who have sent replies concerning my previous
questions, thanks and sorry I haven't sent back replies to any of you. I have
been terribly busy, but don't think I don't appreciate the help because I
really do.

Chris

P.S. I haven't gotten any mail from info-apple in a long time. What's going
on? If you send responses to info-apple, please cc: me otherwise I may
      not get it.

Yes, please set up the software exchange; it will help
software (shareware) developers like Don Elton who offers
programs like Talk Is Cheap at $30 rather than paying $90+
for AE Pro or MouseTalk!
