Well, I knew this would happen. I appreciate the thoughts behind the posting of Don Elton's TIC shareware program, and I'm sure Don does, too. It's in the spirit of shareware to pass it along. However, the three humongous hex dumps for a 49-block object file were just too large. I think that if we are going to be using Bredon's Executioner that we AT LEAST use the compression (6-bit packing) mode to ease up the burden on smaller mail systems. It would only seem logical. This is why I proposed that WE create a separate distribution address for Apple softtware, and let's leave "info-apple" for "information" and not for "software". Nearly 300k of text, split into twelve feeds on my 10mb system (which was at 90% full) caused a ton of problems. I don't mean to hoist the inadequacy of my hard-disk onto this newsfeed, but I'm sure that the hundreds of others who have been able to acquire a shareware program such as TIC from local BBS's, The Source, CompuServe, BIX, GEnie, and Delphi probably don't appreciate finding oversized copies of it in their mailboxes either. M. Davis's request that a new board for apple shareware is long overdue as the volume of messages on this board has increased greatly over the past 2 1/2 years (due in part to Apple Computer's expansion and the dedicated ol' apple II user's persistence). I second mdavis' idea that we should create a new newsgroup to handle the loads of shareware/pd wares that are bogging down the info-apple group.
