[comp.sys.apple] Shugart Disk Drives

sherin@linc.cis.upenn.edu (Steve Sherin) (08/03/87)

I've been reading things on the net about 80-track Micro-Sci drives.
I've got a pair of Shugart drives, and I know that Shugart made
(makes?) drives for uSci. So, I'm wondering if that means I've
got 80-track capability instead of 40. Does anyone use either
of those drives and/or have any info on them?

Many thanks,

Steve,

Whether you have 80 track or 40 track capability on your Shugart disk
drives can easily be determined by matching the model number to the list
below. Shugart drives have a white or silver tag (usually at the back
of the drive) that contains this infomation. Here is the description by
model number.

SA400 - 180KB, 40 track, single-sided, full height 5.25" floppy disk
drive
SA410 - 360KB, 80 track, single-sided, full height 5.25" floppy disk
drive
SA450 - 360KB, 40 track, double-sided, full height 5.25" floppy disk
drive
SA455 - 360KB, 40 track, double-sided, half height 5.25" floppy disk
drive
SA460 - 720KB, 80 track, double-sided, full height 5.25" floppy disk
drive
SA465 - 720KB, 80 track, double-sided, half height 5.25" floppy disk
drive
SA475 - 1.2MB, 80 track, double-sided, half height 5.25" floppy disk
drive

Just to round out the list Shugart also sold two microfloppies:

SA300 - 360KB, 80 track, single-sided, 1.62" high 3.5" Microfloppy disk
drive
SA350 - 720KB, 80 track, double-sided, 1.62" high 3.5" Microfloppy disk
drive

[Note: Capacities are typical formatted capacities. Some drives may
say, 'Shugart 475' instead of 'SA475'. It is all the same.]

Hope this helps,
