I got the impression that this is the middle act in a three-act series: "Between two of Dr. Jones's adventures, here's something interesting that happened to him when he was visiting China." Unfortunately, I was expecting a different movie, with Belloch (Belloq?) and the kinda stuffy professor that worked with Indy back home. That was my mistake, since this is still quite a good film. --- Without giving away the plot, I can tell you a few things that are "public knowledge": i) It's a prequel, set in 1935. If you remember the story line of the first movie, that means that he's not seen Marion for quite awhile, so her absence is explained well enough. ii) Like the first movie, you have an opening scene that gives you more entertainment than most other movies give you for the entire movie. (No spiders this time. Worse.) iii) You do NOT want to read any reviews or get the program before seeing the movie. It can spoil a lot of the effects/plot. iv) It is very violent in a couple of sections, I guess. (I had to read Siskel's review to know which parts were the objectionable parts, and after reading it, I agree.) If you take your 6-year-old kid brother, be prepared to cover his eyes during a particular pagan ritual. Bloody. I recommend this movie highly for the effects/action, and liked it a lot. If you're expecting realism, though, go see "The Grapes of Wrath" again. Lucas/ Spielberg movies aren't known for that. Jeff "Bring on the Clone Wars" Bowles Lisle, IL ps. I assume that a real "spoiler" is saying "But I couldn't believe that Spock died at the end!" ?
