[net.movies] Spielberg's Gremlin

ix21@sdccs6.UUCP (David Whiteman) (05/18/84)

FirsI'll say that this movie is a good movie but not a good
Spielberg movie. It is well worth the 4-5 dollars and much better
than any of the recent movies, but it is not as good as ET or Raiders.
The best actor in the movie is the guy who played Master Poe in Kung
Fu; in the movie he also plays a wise man and portrays it well.
What is most surprizing about this movie is that it is almost a pure
comedy -- twice during the movie my sides were splitting with
laughter, something you would not expect from a Spielberg movie.
Sayinguch more will really spoil the movie, so I will desist.

I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but isn't "Gremlins" a
Joe Dante movie? Yes, Spielberg *produced* the film, but I was
under the impression you usually "credited" a film to the director.
Always seems to me when the ads say "<insert-your-favorite-famous-
marketable-film-director's-name-here> presents..." it's a cheap
attempt to make you think it's actually what'shisname's film.

Please remember that while Spielberg is the PRODUCER, he is not the DIRECTOR
of "Gremlins"... Joe Dante is, and he is well-reknowned for putting together
spoofy horror movie. Very few movies have (intentionally) made me laugh as
hard as "The Howling". He practices very little gore, too -- is it the same
in "Gremlins"? I've heard about the little boogers in cuisinarts and stuff,
but after Smurfs et. al., I'm looking forward to that!

No, I think that in film-ese you can say:

		Sam Producer Presents
			a
		Joe Director Film

which does make some sort of sense.
