[net.music] Drummers Quiz

jwr@ccieng5.UUCP ( James Walter Reid) (05/24/84)

Here are the answers to my 'Identify the drummer' quiz.

Obviously, there are additions that can be made to the list.
I gave the benefit of the doubt in most cases.

I have *starred* my ten favorite drummers, for those of you who
are interested. Just one man's opinion though.

*Alan White (Yes, Plastic Ono Band) - Well, I like him.
Albert Bouchard (Blue Oyster Cult)
Alex Van Halen (Van Halen) - Improving with each and every album.
Aynsley Dunbar (Journey, Jefferson Starship, Bowie)
Bev Bevan (The Move, E.L.O., Black Sabbath)
Bill Bruford (Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, U.K.) - What's the big fuss ?
Bill Ward (Black Sabbath)
Bob Benberg (Supertramp) - very underrated.
Bobby Rondinelli (Rainbow, Scorpions)
Brian Davison (The Nice, Refugee, Every Which Way)
*Carl Palmer (E.L.P., The Nice, Arthur Brown, Atomic Rooster, PM, Asia)
- Still my personnel favorite, despite Asia.
Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Beck, Bogart, and Appice, Rod Stewart)
*Chester Thompson (Genesis, Zappa) - Has helped Phil Collins improve.
Chip Davis (Mannheim Steamroller) - Incredible control.
Chuck Burgi (Rainbow, Hall & Oates, Brand X)
Chuck Ruff (Edgar Winter)
Cozy Powell (Rainbow, MSG, Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Whitesnake)
Don Henley (Eagles)
Herman Rarebell (Scorpions)
*Ian Mosley (Steve Hackett) - An incredible drummer.
Ian Paice (Deep Purple, Gary Moore)
Jeff Porcaro (Toto, Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, David Gilmour, Warren Zevon)
John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) - R.I.P.
John Mayhew (Genesis THIRD drummer)
*John Shearer (Steve Hackett) - The wild man.
John Silver (Genesis SECOND drummer) - He replaced Chris Stewart, who never
recorded with the band.
* Keith Moon (The Who) - R.I.P.
*Martin Deller (F.M.) - If the band ever makes it, this man will be known.
*Neil Peart (Rush) - What more can one say ?
Nick Mason (The Pink Floyd)
Nico McBrain (Iron Maiden)
*Phil Collins (Genesis, Flaming Youth, Brand X, Robert Plant) - He may
be overrated as a singer (I don't think so), but one hell of a drummer.
Phil Ehart (Kansas, Steve Hackett)
Pierre Van Der Linden (Focus)
Roger Taylor (Queen) - There is also a Roger Taylor in Duran Duran.
Simon Phillips (Mike Rutherford, Pete Townshend, MSG) - It's amazing to
think that The Who picked Kenney Jones over this man in 1979.
Steve Smith (Journey, Vital Information) - What are he and Neil Schon doing
in Journey ?
Stewart (Not Stuart, sorry) Copeland (Police)
*Terry Bozzio (U.K., Missing Persons) - Could be the best drummer in rock.
Unfortunately, as long as Missing Persons lasts, we'll never find out.
Vinnie Appice (Dio, Black Sabbath) - One of the best hard rock drummers.

And the winners are:

1st place: houxf!got (Bob Gottesman) - 28 pts.

2nd place: tellab1!etan (Nate Stelton) - 27 pts.

3rd place: inmet!andrew (Andrew W. Rogers) - 26 pts.

4th place: ihuxr!rush (Jeff Carter) - 23 pts.

5th place: pyuxn!rlr (Rich Rosen) - 22 pts.

The only ones that no one got were Martin Deller (no surprise) and
Nico Mcbrain (again no surprise). Apparently no one in there right mind
listens to Iron Maiden. He's still a pretty good drummer.

Thanks to everyone who entered,

You missed a few of Aynsley Dunbar's bands:
John Mayall's Bluesbreakers,
Retaliation (answer to a good trivia question, Name the band
             that Aynsley Dunbar founded),
The Mothers of Invention.

Just for grins, why weren't Ginger Baker, Bun E. Carlos, Mitch Mitchell
and Max Roach on your list?

"I don't want no fancy tots, I needs the ones that's clean!"
