After a chat with the local Apple service people I have learned of multiple GS Motherboard replacements. While this info is real, the circumstances are questionable at this time. During a set up and installation of new GS, the circuit powering the GS was also occupied with a small refrigerator. A standard brand name surge protector was inline. All went well and normal with the installation when suddenly the refrig came online. The GS ceased, prompt went away, and the GS wouldn't reboot. The machine was removed from the premisis and returned to the installing dealer where it was determined that multiple circuits were puffed. Conclusions at this time: It is SUSPECTED that there is some power supply problem that is causing severe circuitry problems on the Mom board during a brownout. As an Apple ][e owner, and after many, many times watching my monitor slowly go away and observing an automatic reboot after a temporary power loss without any damage to the ][e, I respectfully warn GS users to consider (at present) some UPS (uninteruptable power supply) in order to eliminate severe damage. This is only a guess, but seems reasonable as more than 1 GS I am aware of has had more than 1 Mother board replaced. Comments welcome to E-Mail re: GS Mom board failures.
