Well lots of people have been asking about creating a separate distribution for the public domain program. Ok I finally have it set up. I have created a distribution list on the LISTSERV@BROWNVM to distribute public domain programs. Questions should still be sent to info-apple but postings of software should be sent here instead of info-apple. This way only users who want to receive public domain programs will. If you would like to subscribe to this list, send the following message: TELL LISTSERV AT BROWNVM SUBSCRIBE APPLE2-L first_name last_name If you cannot send interactive messages then you can also register via mail. You would do so by sending mail to LISTSERV@BROWNVM. Just make sure that the first line in your mail is: SUBSCRIBE APPLE2-L first_name last_name If you have problems subscribing, send me a note. All postings should be sent to APPLE2-L@BROWNVM.BITNET. Right now all of the postings are being saved in a notebook that only I have access to. I am trying to find out now if I can change that to single files so that all posted software in the future can be obtained by sending the LISTSERV machine a message. This way we can store posted programs here and anyone can retrieve them whenever they want. Please note that I am new to this LISTSERV software and am just starting to learn how to use it so there may be problems at first. If anyone is an expert at LISTSERV servers and would like to help, please send me mail. Note: You cannot retrieve files now. I am working on that. However if subscribe you will receive all programs that people send and we won't have to clog up those subscribers of info-apple on uucp sites. Chris BITNET: CC004019@BROWNVM I hope these addresses ARPA: C004019%BROWNVM.BITNET@WISCVM.WISC.EDU are correct! UUCP: IHNP4!PSUVAX1!BROWNVM.BITNET!CC004019

> > >How can subscribers on Arpanet take advantage of the list? > >_Brint > >[Sorry to send to the entire list, but someone's mailer couldn't find >brownvm.bitnet this morning.] > They can send mail to LISTSERV@BROWNVM.BITNET and subscribe. The first line of the mail should be the command: SUBSCRIBE APPLE2-L first_name last_name That should be the only thing in the mail. If for some reason they can't get this to work they can always send me mail (one person has already) and I could add them manually. All programs to be posted should be sent to APPLE2-L@BROWNVM.BITNET and not to the LISTSERV account. Also I have changed the server to store each posting as separate files. This way users on bitnet can retrieve them by sending a GET command to LISTSERV@BROWNVM. I am not sure about users outside of bitnet, but they can try to get files by sending mail to LISTSERV@BROWNVM.BITNET with the first line being: GET filename filetype If anyone wants more information about getting files or knowing how LISTSERV works, let me know. If enough people want, I can post the help file for using the LISTSERV server. Chris
